The Need
Eight villages in Solukhumbu District have never had reliable electricity. Families rely on kerosene lamps for light, which are expensive, dangerous, and produce harmful fumes. Children study by candlelight, health posts cannot refrigerate medicines, and small businesses cannot operate after dark.
The national grid will not reach these remote communities for at least another decade. Diesel generators are prohibitively expensive to operate and maintain at high altitudes. Without power, these communities remain isolated from modern communication, education, and economic opportunities.
Solar energy is the ideal solution for these sun-rich mountain villages, but the upfront cost of equipment and installation is beyond what individual families or villages can afford.
