The Need
Twelve villages in upper Solukhumbu have no permanent health facilities. The nearest clinic is a full day's walk away, making it impossible for elderly people, pregnant women, and young children to access regular medical care. Minor illnesses become serious because treatment is delayed.
Preventable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory infections go undiagnosed and untreated. Women have no access to prenatal care or family planning services. Children miss routine vaccinations, leaving them vulnerable to preventable diseases.
During winter months, these communities are completely isolated. Medical emergencies require dangerous helicopter evacuations that cost thousands of dollars. Regular preventive care could save lives and reduce the need for emergency interventions.
