The Need
Women in rural Solukhumbu have limited economic opportunities. Traditional gender roles confine them to unpaid household work, leaving them financially dependent and vulnerable. Many have skills and ambitions but lack training, equipment, and capital to start businesses.
Without income of their own, women have little voice in household decisions and limited ability to invest in their children's education or health. Domestic violence rates are higher in households where women lack economic independence.
The growing tourism industry in the Everest region creates opportunities, but women need training in hospitality, handicrafts, and business management to participate. Access to small loans can transform lives, but women are often excluded from traditional lending.
